Our PGA Junior League wrapped up for the 2024 season, this week. We had 84 kids involved in our Junior League this season. These kids got the opportunity to get coached by some awesome coaches and got a chance to learn the game of golf! A BIG thank you to all our volunteer coaches and parents that helped each week! Our 2025 PGA Junior League registration will open in February of 2025. It filled up fast so be on the lookout for next season!
Our Ladies night also wrapped up at the end of July. We had over 40 different ladies learn come out and sharpen their golf skills. We ranged from beginners to weekly players. We all had a great time and got better each week! Ladies night will be back in 2025 starting at the end of May!
August is a busy tournament month at OGAGC! If your company or organization is looking for a site to host your next event for this year or 2025, please contact me directly.
The lesson tee is filling up quickly! If you are looking for some tune ups before your club championship or just a beginner. Now is the time to start learning! We offer 1, 3 and 5 lesson packages. Please contact me if you are interested.
Pro Tip: When teaching you littles to play golf. Have them stand on an alignment stick to help with their stance and aim, make sure their hands are together on the club, make sure they swing hard but balanced. But the most important thing is to make sure that it is FUN! Get them a few special treats, drive around in the cart, take them out to lunch, and don’t keep them out there for too long. Once they are having the most fun it is time to take them home. This will make them want to come back and play again!

Golf Shop Manager's Update
Superintendent's Update
My oh my, August is here. It’s time for hot August nights, fairs, and College Football!
The crew is plugging along. We will continue with our routine maintenance for the time being. This month is filled with groups, shotguns, and tournaments so there will be some extra work that will be needed. We will be rolling and double cutting the greens more often.
We skipped one topdressing in July, but we were able to get a verticut and top-dress the end of the month. This should improve the smoothness of the greens and overall health. I could really see the difference after skipping one.
We hope to get our new fairway mowers this month. It has been a long wait, and they keep pushing the dates back. One of our rough mowers has also been in the shop for the last month, and we hope to see it back here soon. The fairway mowers will hopefully improve the look and cut of the fairways. We are using 15–20-year-old ones now and they are difficult to keep a consistent cut. With the other rough mower, we hope to get through the entire rough every week.
We will be adding more sand to the greenside bunkers this month. We have about nine more holes to go. But with the amount of play and prep work for the busy month, we may not get to them all. I am happy with the nine holes we have done, and the crew has done a great job.
We are still trying to dial in the new irrigation and are adjusting on the daily. This time of year, it really shows where changes need to be made and we try to get to them in a timely manner. I hope the cooling down of greens in the afternoon is over, but there still may be a few here or there.
Enjoy your round!
Cheers!
